Many have been given – and claimed – credit for the GST but no one has mentioned former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett and his then-treasurer Alan Stockdale.
Until now. Rob Lucas, who was the South Australian treasurer when the tax was being designed, negotiated and implemented, said "it was Kennett and Stockdale who got it through".
