Labor’s pledge to build 1.2 million new homes in five years is off track and significant changes to tax rules and land supply costs are needed to close the shortfall, the industry’s peak lobby group has warned.
The Housing Industry Association said on Friday new modelling showed the country is about 200,000 homes behind the target the Albanese government and state and territory administrations set in a $3.5 billion deal in August last year.
