GST fight looms over ‘hopeless’ population counts

Incorrect population data being used for the GST carve-up and allocation of federal health and education funding is shortchanging the ACT by as much as 5 per cent, prompting calls for a review by Chief Minister Andrew Barr.

The national capital maintained its position as the country’s fastest growing jurisdiction in Tuesday’s census results. The ACT’s population grew to 454,499 people in August 2021, an increase of 14.4 per cent since 2016.
