Peter Malinauskas and Mark McGowan set up GST fight for Labor
Anthony Albanese faces a tax tug-of-war between Labor’s two most popular state premiers if he wins the May election, as South Australia’s new leader Peter Malinauskas declared he will push for change to the GST carve-up regardless of wins in May.
As the federal Labor leader ruled out any change to Western Australia’s $4.4 billion sweetheart GST deal on the eve of the campaign, Mr Malinauskas told the National Press Club in Canberra that he had raised the unfair treatment of his state with federal Labor colleagues on numerous occasions.
