Giles orders urgent review into criminal ‘migrants’

Immigration Minister Andrew Giles is urgently reviewing the Administrative Appeal Tribunal’s overturning of visa cancellations that have stopped serious criminals from being deported, as he tries to douse a political firestorm for the government.
Mr Giles maintained that ministerial directions he gave requiring a greater weight be put on a person’s ties to Australia had not opened the door to people staying.
