The NSW government is being urged to franchise publicly operated buses in Sydney as the private sector takes the helm of the city’s iconic ferry fleet from the end of this month.

The NSW government is being urged to franchise publicly operated buses in Sydney as the private sector takes the helm of the city’s iconic ferry fleet.

A report by LEK Consulting, to be released on Friday by the Tourism and Transport Forum, identifies “immediate opportunities" for franchising public buses in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and Canberra under a model giving governments control over routes and fares.
