Police have charged former federal Labor MP Craig Thomson over allegations he helped facilitate more than 130 fraudulent visa applications, allegedly making more than $2 million in financial gains.

Australian Federal Police officers arrested the 57-year-old at his home in Terrigal, on the NSW Central Coast, on Wednesday morning, following an investigation triggered by an Australian Border Force probe.
