The professional future of about 16,000 financial advisers remains in doubt as the Senate prepares to delay further the Morrison government's promised extension to the deadline for meeting new mandatory education standards.

On Monday, the House of Representatives removed a Centre Alliance amendment from government legislation that would grant a one-year extension to financial advisers to complete a mandatory exam, putting the industry's fate back in the hands of the Senate.
