Exporters and Coalition MPs are pushing Agriculture Minister David Littleproud to shorten a moratorium on live sheep exports to the Middle East, amid fears African and European farmers could fill the void.

Since 2019, the export of Australian sheep to countries in the Persian Gulf is paused between June 1 and September 30 to coincide with the northern summer after controversy over mass deaths of livestock from heat stress on board ships.
