Around 2.3 million small businesses are likely to become part of a significantly strengthened privacy regime, including a new personal right of privacy, under proposed sweeping reforms of Australia’s antiquated privacy laws.

A two-year review of the Privacy Act undertaken by the Attorney General’s Department has recommended creating major personal privacy protections around an expanded definition of personal information. This includes geolocation and genomic information.
