Dutton’s climate poll surge evokes Fightback! saga
The headline numbers confirm Peter Dutton is setting the agenda, but to stay on top he will need to prove how his nuclear plan will ease the cost of living.
Laura TingleColumnistBritain goes to the polls in two weeks. The Conservative government of Rishi Sunak is universally presumed to be in for a thrashing. The confidence of the presumption comes courtesy of that oft-seen phrase “according to the polls”.
Writing in the British newspaper The Telegraph, columnist Michael Deacon said polls that for almost two years had given Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour leads of 20 percentage points or more “has made the campaign feel like a waste of time, because the outcome seems a foregone conclusion”.
