Dutton minority a third option that can’t be ignored

The possibility of a Dutton minority government, albeit slim, first came into view in July when The Australian Financial Review/Freshwater Strategy poll found the Coalition had pulled ahead of Labor on the two-party-preferred vote.

Its lead of 51 per cent to 49 per cent stayed there for two months before, in the latest September poll, it inched up to 52 per cent to 48 per cent. That’s a 4.1 percentage point swing to the Coalition since the last election in May 2022.
