Dutton flags citizenship changes after nurses’ antisemitic tirade
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has flagged the need for a tougher regime on granting citizenship, drawing a fresh link between rising antisemitism to a migration system that is not adequately screening people for their commitment to Australian values.
Mr Dutton seized on revelations that Sydney nurse Ahmad Rashad Nadir – who with a colleague was recorded threatening to kill Israeli patients – was a refugee from Afghanistan and had been granted citizenship almost five years ago. He said it highlighted deficiencies with the migration system.
