Dutton emboldened on cost of living, migration after Trump victory

Peter Dutton says there are “eerie parallels” with the political climate in the United States and Australia, as he confirmed Donald Trump’s victory had emboldened the Coalition to keep campaigning on the cost of living and immigration.

While Prime Minister Anthony Albanese argued that the US result had vindicated his government’s focus on cost-of-living assistance and reducing inequity in society, Mr Dutton said the disconnect between American voters and the Biden administration was not dissimilar to the mood in Australia.
