When we peel away the impact of personal votes and adjust for the loss of fringe right candidates, the Dunkley byelection shows a continuation of the drift away from the major parties that we saw in the 2022 general election.

This drift was hidden in Aston by Labor’s honeymoon result in April 2023, but exposed in Fadden three months later by the unfolding train wreck that was the Voice campaign.
