Doxxers face years in prison under new privacy offences

Maliciously sharing someone’s personal information online will be punishable by up to seven years in prison, under strict new anti-doxxing laws being introduced to parliament on Thursday.

After a series of high-profile incidents in which people were publicly identified and attacked for their views on the war between Israel and Hamas, the Albanese government said it would outlaw doxxing – the intentional and malicious online exposure of an individual’s identity, private information, or personal details without their consent.
