The Albanese government has been warned it risks a blue-collar backlash and prolonging of the climate wars unless it establishes a transition scheme to help the thousands of workers and the regions that will be left high and dry by the rapid phase-out of coal-fired power.

Reminding Anthony Albanese of his pre-election pledge to leave no one behind, Mining and Energy Union general president Tony Maher says the anti-coal brigade such as AGL board raider Mike Cannon-Brookes and the teal independents care little for the fate of the power station workers and coal miners whose livelihoods they want to abolish.
