Defence teams to boost struggling aged care sector

As many as 1700 Australian Defence Force members will join an emergency response in the country’s struggling aged care sector, as the federal government sends in nurses and support staff to help relieve an exhausted workforce.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Monday said Defence would assist the federal Health Department as omicron cases and deaths grow across residential aged care, with teams of about 50 personnel assisting in each state and territory.
