Aviation operators want the Morrison government to change the contract terms for aerial firefighting leases, a move that would boost the creation of an Australia-based fleet of planes to fight summer bushfires.

The Coalition has opted not to take up a recommendation from the bushfires royal commission calling for a new Australian sovereign aerial firefighting fleet, run in conjunction with the states and territories.
