NSW Liberal senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells has been told by her hard-right faction she could not rely on its support and faces losing her preselection ahead of the 2022 election.
The push to oust the firebrand senator comes as left and right powerbrokers in the party undertake moves to wind back recently implemented democratic reforms to make it easier for the factions to control the winnable spots on the Senate ticket.
