China has accused the Morrison government of interfering in its "judicial sovereignty" by offering consular protection to two Australian journalists wanted for questioning in an investigation.

A Foreign Ministry spokesman also attacked Canberra for "double standards" by accusing China of hostage diplomacy when it was harassing Chinese journalists in Australia.
