Chance for return to Indigenous fire techniques

Authorities may have a rare opportunity to utilise Indigenous fire prevention methods in the wake of the current bushfires, as the unprecedented amount of land burnt creates conditions that would enable a safe return to traditional management techniques.

The extent of the destruction of this season's fires – more than 10 million hectares have so far burnt – has prompted calls for new ways of fighting blazes, including Indigenous methods.
