Jim Chalmers insists he’s relaxed about the range of responses to ambitious policies such as those contained in his budget – even if he doesn’t believe all of them are right.

But despite the easy-going manner that makes the treasurer by far the government’s best public performer, Chalmers is clearly highly sensitive about the welter of economic criticism that has greeted his budget.
