Banned colleges allocated thousands of places under student caps

At least 11 private vocational colleges that have copped sanctions for failing to meet quality standards were allotted foreign student places for next year under controversial caps that are crushing legitimate businesses.

Education Minister Jason Clare last month said new foreign student enrolments would be capped in 2025 at 270,000 in a crackdown designed to soothe community anger that booming migrant numbers were pushing up house prices and putting big-city infrastructure under pressure.
