Bankers and other business leaders say they are surprised that new Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has criticised big business for speaking too much on climate and social issues, arguing that managing the energy transition is a core part of business.
National Australia Bank chief executive Ross McEwan said he had spoken regularly to former Liberal treasurer Josh Frydenberg and new Labor Treasurer Jim Chalmers and had a good working relationship with both of them.
