Australia too dependent on ADF to deal with natural disasters
As more Australian Defence Force personnel got their hands dirty assisting flood-stricken communities mop up on Thursday, former security leaders have warned Australia should not become dependent on the ADF to pick up the pieces after natural disasters.
The flood crisis has exposed a lack of effective disaster response leadership in Canberra, the Australian Security Leaders Climate Group said, adding the government was too reliant on the ADF to do the heavy lifting after a crisis.
