Australia’s wealth gap on the rise with inequality worst since 1950

Forty per cent of Australia’s historically high economic inequality can be linked to the key factors of age, education, employment status, gender, disability, geographic location and place of birth, according to an Actuaries Institute research paper.

The identification and quantification of these linkages will enable improved targeting of the drivers of growing income and wealth gaps, the actuaries say, while calling on the government to better redistribute the dividends of economic growth.
