The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions versus Richard Boyle is being billed as the most significant test of public service whistleblower protection laws since they came into force almost a decade ago.

It is the first time a provision under the federal whistleblowing law, the Public Interest Disclosure Act, will be tested in a criminal case.
