Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will spend billions of dollars to woo angry voters in Melbourne’s west with a major election campaign pledge to build a key part of the city’s rail line to the airport.
The money, to be announced by Albanese and Transport Minister Catherine King on Wednesday, will go towards an overhaul of Sunshine Station, a hub linking Melbourne Airport’s proposed rail line to the existing network and the final link in Victoria’s controversial Suburban Rail Loop megaproject.
