Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has used the opening of a major exhibition in Canberra to defend the problematic legacy of French post-impressionist Paul Gauguin, warning against the toxic reach of “cancel culture” in public life.
Mr Albanese surprised dignitaries at the National Gallery of Australia on Thursday night, offering an eloquent defence of the arts and its sometimes challenging personalities.
