Anthony Albanese has cited a crushing byelection defeat for the Howard government more than two decades ago to counsel supporters not to be discouraged should Labor lose Saturday’s byelection in Dunkley.
As both Mr Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton hit the campaign trail in the suburban Melbourne seat on Friday, Liberal insiders, while not discounting a victory, feared the scale of the challenge was mathematically too big.
