Electoral commission considers Constance request for recount
The Australian Electoral Commission has delayed declaring Labor the winner in the NSW electorate of Gilmore after the Liberal Party’s star candidate for the seat, Andrew Constance, issued a last-minute request for a recount.
The AEC was due to formally declare at 2pm on Tuesday that Labor’s Fiona Phillips had won the seat on NSW’s south coast by 373 votes. The tally equates to a razor-thin two-party preferred figure of 50.17 per cent to 49.83 per cent in Ms Phillips’ favour.
