Economists warn of $118b Queensland debt bomb

Queensland's total debt could top $118 billion by the end of next parliamentary term – $16 billion more than flagged by Treasurer Cameron Dick in last month's budget update – as economists warn about the ongoing impact of the Palaszczuk government's border closures.

With Queensland's election campaign officially kicking off on Tuesday when Governor Paul de Jersey issued the writs for the October 31 election, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queenslanders should vote for Labor because her government had kept them safe from the coronavirus and it was the only one capable of delivering a post-pandemic economic recovery.
