Ban on SMSF property loans rejected

Labor has rejected calls to ban self-managed super funds from borrowing to purchase real estate, in a reversal of the position it took to the 2019 election.

The Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees is urging the Albanese government to use the October 25 budget to ban self-managed super funds from using limited recourse borrowing arrangements (LRBAs), which is a credit contract typically used to purchase property.
