Drop political ‘nation building’ purpose of super: FSC

The Albanese government should drop controversial criteria that superannuation be invested “in an equitable and sustainable way” from its proposed purpose for the system to reduce the risk it is used to justify policy changes, the Financial Services Council (FSC) says.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has suggested including these words in the legislated purpose would help enable “productivity-enhancing” investment by funds in projects that boost housing supply and mitigate climate change.
