Why 6000 extra prostate cancers is not really an increase at all

There’s no need to panic about the headlines last week claiming that prostate cancer is now the biggest cancer in Australia. It has been the biggest for 20 years.
The claim that it is set to overtake breast cancer was made not because of a material change on the ground, but because this year the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare changed the way it estimates prostate cancer numbers.
