When Paul McDermott began as the principal of Blue Haven Public school in August 2016 the kindergarten-to-year-6 school was one of the lowest-performing schools as defined by a key NAPLAN measurement.
It was in the bottom 5 per cent of schools that were adding value to students' scores as they progressed from year three to year five.
