This year’s NAPLAN results are a genuine surprise. That fact that Australian school children, especially those in Victoria, have shown no discernable decline in academic performance is unexpected.

No one could have predicted results that have defied 18 months of chaos as classrooms closed, teachers en masse turned to tech solutions and parents juggled the whole shebang.
