A bungled enterprise deal negotiated last year provoked a massive rift among the nation’s vice-chancellors and generated an ugly backlash within the academic union.
The deal, which was created with the intention of mitigating job losses in the wake of border closures and the collapse of overseas student enrolments, became unstuck when a rebel vice-chancellor wrote to chancellors calling into question the legality of the deal.
