COVID-19 linked to 20,000 Australian deaths in 2022: study

COVID-19 was largely the cause of an extra 20,000 Australian deaths last year, according to a report by the Actuaries Institute, which has been tracking the death toll closely since the pandemic began.

More than half the deaths were directly caused by COVID-19. For some, the disease was listed on their death certificates as a contributing cause, and for others, their deaths were probably due to the effects of the pandemic.
