Sag Harbour in the Hamptons, New York, used to be a big whaling town. These days it’s more the financial variety of whales that dominate the beautiful cedar-shingled houses, the quaint but expensive shops and the high-end restaurants.

Our waitress in one of these restaurants says she used to be a long-term employee at Donald Trump’s resort Mar-a-Lago, where she often encountered him.
