Shipbuilding capacity expanding as regional clients beckon
They were competitors to build the Royal Australian Navy's fleet of patrol boats, and shipbuilders Austal and Luerssen look set to continue their rivalry as they chase export opportunities in the region from their shipyards in Western Australia.
Canberra's determination to leverage its $200 billion investment in new military kit into export opportunities has led to family-owned German shipbuilder Luerssen becoming the first to answer the call.
