Constant eruptions of jubilation throughout the ceremonial roll call of American states at the Democratic National Convention captured the party’s delight about the race for the White House.

The rapture at the powerful oratory by Barack and Michelle Obama reflected the enduring personal glow of the black American president’s popularity and success. Now the Democrats can actually believe the US is about to make history again with a double first – electing the first black woman to be president.
