Ramesh ThakurFormer United Nations officialRelations between Canada and India are in a tailspin. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has alleged India was behind the June 18 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent Sikh leader in suburban Vancouver.
Nijjar was a wanted man in India with a $16,000 bounty on his head. India has rejected the “unsubstantiated” charge as “absurd”. The depth of Indian anger is evident in the description of Canada as a “safe haven” for “terrorists, extremists and organised crime”, language normally reserved for Pakistan.
