Australia must find common purpose with China

Both nations depend heavily on a multilateral trading system. Strengthening it together is a way of managing their troubled bilateral relationship.

What might become the new normal in Australia’s relationship with China is a major question for the Albanese government. There will be no simple reinvention of the old relationship. But the change in government in Australia provides an opportunity for both countries to articulate and pursue again common imperatives that flow from shared global economic interests.
