Why the fastest-selling EV is a plug-in hybrid

Sales of electric vehicles are stagnating. Could the “plug-in hybrid” provide the perfect bridge between old and new?

While sales of purely electric cars rose just 4.7 per cent here last year, sales of plug-in hybrids doubled, albeit off a lower base.  

A decision many car buyers will make this year – and particularly in the next four weeks – is not whether to opt for a plug-in car, but which type of plug-in car.

The question is particularly pertinent because from April 1, a change to the fringe benefits tax rules could dramatically reshape the so-called new energy car market.
