Ignore – as much as is humanly possible – the noise and brawling coming from the Nationals. Scott Morrison still appreciates his KPIs for 2020, rather than 2050, include acknowledging that climate change is real. And that Australia must commit to sizeable emissions reductions, including working with industry to achieve this.

Certainly, it must be the promise of constantly moving technology rather than any version of a carbon tax or a 2050 target that becomes the magic policy elixir. This promise also conveniently avoids having to acknowledge any corresponding increase in the cost for household consumers and businesses (as opposed to all taxpayers via the billions of dollars spent on various programs in the budget).
