The Coalition climate warriors hold fire
Peter Dutton and other prominent conservatives seemed to have declared a truce over climate policy after their disastrous election performance.
Eleven years ago, in the House of Representatives, Liberal leader Tony Abbott pledged “in blood” to repeal an economy-wide carbon-trading scheme that had just been legislated by Labor prime minister Julia Gillard.
“This is a black day for Australian democracy,” Mr Abbott declared. “This carbon tax is a sign of the prime minister’s willingness to betray people for power.”
