Helicopters and navy poised to rescue Mallacoota residents

Black Hawk helicopters, an amphibious ship and another navy vessel are expected to rescue the most vulnerable of the 4000 residents and tourists trapped in Mallacoota as Victoria's East Gippsland region continues to burn.

HMAS Choules, one of Australia's three amphibious ships, was expected to begin relocating the sick and elderly to Westernport on Friday morning, according to the Australian Defence Force.
