Dark clouds overshadow sun-soaked climate talks

Sharm el-Sheikh | The United Nations’ annual COP climate change jamboree is being held in the relentless sunshine of Egyptian resort town Sharm el-Sheikh. But paradoxically, the two-week summit is at risk of being heavily overshadowed.

On the summit’s opening days, more than 120 national leaders are jetting in to parade the usual mix of pieties and promises, including US President Joe Biden and most of Europe’s big-hitters but not Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
